Family Role Play Fun

Once, the pursuit of Hindi story books landed me to the Storyweaver.org.in website. Rummaging through it, I chanced upon a story "Gulli ka gazab pitara". At that instant, I knew this had to be a part of my elezes(activities based on educative learning with zeal) with my daughter Zeel. And I am glad that this Role play activity is first of its kind  to engage in, as Zeel moves onto 2nd grade. Not to forget that it encompasses family and fun. Pratham books is a storehouse of books. When you read "There's more to Storyweaver than just reading" you truly believe it. How otherwise, would I have discovered this Hindi book? Loads of English books have been translated to many regional languages. Now, since the book is in digital form, I have taken the liberty to print it for my daughter, to get a touch, flip and read feel. I have always preferred physical books than the e-versions. There are no changes made. The print copy is-as version of the PDF and has the attributi...

Colors of my emotions

There are colors of my emotions Do you know? Like pearls in an ocean Do you know? O, how would you? You must look into my heart The acts it performs Reflect various shades of art Come, let's see This palette of colors You and I As we learn with joy. Does it ring the bell on which activity I am talking about? Colors indeed, but not discrete. Few days back, after the last Hindi matra activity, my brain was working around to decide what to take up next. When Zeel and I sat, I shared her my concern about not sure what to do next. She threw a couple of ideas, and in one such thought, happen to mention about making heart shaped chits (looking at her dress), picking the chit and going on treasure hunt for action words. Voila ! It struck a chord within me. Heart represents emotions, colors evoke emotions and the emotions drive actions...............Are you with me? Let's begin ! --------------------------------- ## eleze# 10 The colors of my emotions # Material Used # 1) Heart shaped ...

An outdoor activity, and a tinge of DT - "Expression Sketch"

When was the last time our children went out to play? The year 2020 restricted us. Moreover, it was an emotional roller coaster ride last year. Isn't it? So now, in the brighter days, let our children get a breath of fresh air. Let them push open the doors, and run to the nearby garden. And, as the emotions run high, we will record them in a visual representation, playing upon the concept of DT. What's DT? Those who are aware of or use Design Thinking (DT) in their professions, know, that, the Empathy Map helps to decode a User's view, thinking and feeling about your product or service. No, we are not making an Empathy Map to decipher what the child wants (just as a User wants in DT parlance). But, our activity does have a tinge of DT. The child will draw up an "Expression Sketch" of her actions and emotions. Why do this activity? Experience it and you will know ! And once you know, share with me your emotions, feelings about the same. Here it goes! -------------...

Plavity - Its playtime!

"What's in the name" - William Shakespeare had said. But, somehow, I get tempted to find a suitable name; whether its a baby name, a name for a blog or for my post. Like the one today. PLAVITY. I guess you might have guessed it already how it came into being :) This time, its only about Play time, play activity. No English, no Maths and no Hindi :) Well, can I start this without thanking once again, my dear cousin Dr Namrata Dave? She is so thoughtful to gift just the right games to my daughter Zeel! And of course VASCSC Science Shop - the company which created the play games. Now kids, if P is for PLAY you know who else has to be there. P for . . . . . . PEPPA ! Rep Spell

Hi! The bees around the world are now back to their homes. From the New Year vacation last week. Like the New Year week, I too had a theme for last week - Rep Spell. Learn and practice English spellings throughout the week. The idea sprang up as I was browsing through websites for spelling related activities. One work caught my attention. And, Rep Spell was born. Rep stands for repetition. As you will see, session 1 uses worksheet from a website - https://thisreadingmama.com/ . It came as part of a freebie item. I truly thank the website owner to have come up with such resourceful material. There are plenty on the site, I am yet to research those. Here's how Rep Spell works. --------------------------------- ## eleze# 5 Rep Spell # Material Used # 1) A4 sheets designed for this activity. Both sample and templates are attached in this post. 2) White crayon, Highlighter pen and Glitter pens, crayons  NOTE: Before starting, it is highly recommended that the Parent looks at the ...

Welcome back! A very happy new year! 365 new days added in our kitty. Pick one day, and bring in some variety in your child's knowledge building with this activity. Yes, I feel delighted to share for the first time, Maths activity using a readymade kit. Before I start, I would like to thank my cousin - Dr Namrata Dave, who gifted Zeel, the Place Value learning kit. And, to the company which designed and created it - The VASCSC Science Shop. (Read through the end of the post to get link to the website.) So, the topic is "Place Value". At the time of doing this activity, Zeel was aware of Place Value as she had learnt it in online school sessions. We had made use of a made-at-home Abacus kit. Let's start then! --------------------------------- ## eleze# 4 Place value # Material Used # 1) Place Value kit (image attached) 2) A pen # The Activity # 1) Take out the Task cards from the kit. Santa and Sums

Christmas holidays are ongoing, this year Santa comes to Mumbai. As he steps down the Mumbai Railway station, the pretty girl, Zeel’s eyes catch him. Almost running upto him, she greets him. Santa smiles with warmth. They exchange few pleasantries, have kanda poha there and then Santa starts a trip in the city, guided by Zeel.  They go to DAV International School. Santa gifts a bag/box of sweets. Teacher obliges. After distributing these, she returns to give the box back to him. Santa politely refuses and asks to hand it over to Zeel. Confused at this, when they move ahead to visit city hospital, she asks about the box. He said that she would come to know later.  At the city hospital too, the nurse gives the box back to him after dispensing. Zeel collects it from her. The outing continues in similar way to the playground. By this time its afternoon, Santa and Zeel are very hungry. Santa is very excited to try Indian food. At a nearby hotel, Zeel orders her favorite Dosa ...

Matlish

Hi there! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on my first Welcome post on this blog ELEZE - Educative Learning with zeal. The year-end festival is here and all the children have vacation in their school. What's best then, to engage the child in few Fun n Learn activities at home! Today's eleze, is not a planned one. It simply sprang into my mind as I was sitting alongside my daughter Zeel, who was doing her homework. This one is aimed at revising Maths followed by a COMBO FUN. ## eleze# 2 MATLISH # Material Used # 1) Number cards from 1 to 100 - Either you can buy these or make at home. I chose the latter. If you are buying these online, you can opt for number coins or number flash cards. 2) English Word cards - Sound words ee, oo, ll, sh, th, ck,ch etc. I picked all these words from Zeel's English Text Book of school and made chits at home. Create once , use multiple times. You need not create all the types of sound words in one sitting. That will be laborious. Choose som...

Welcome to the 'eleze' abode!

' eleze' is an initiative to share  the educative  activities I do with my daughter ZEEL with  zeal :) . It  all  started  one day, when I  wanted to make h er  practice English  words.  She,  a  grade 1  student,  seemed  uninterested in  writing those.  It  compelled me  to  think  how  to  make  such  sessions appealing  for  her. Here’s one such “Fun n Learn” (as my daughter calls it :) ) session we did in Diwali vacation.  Thank you as you are reading this post.!  ## eleze# 1  Stories, at home, are a routine just like reading newspaper. Only this time, I took it a step further. A couple of days before, I had watched the movie “Junglee” (starring Vidyut Jamwal). From it, I picked up the idea of ‘Saving Animals’ and weaved a story for my doll. She loved it. No, I am not saying it, she actually remarked when it got over....
