Plavity - Its playtime!

"What's in the name" - William Shakespeare had said. But, somehow, I get tempted to find a suitable name; whether its a baby name, a name for a blog or for my post. Like the one today. PLAVITY. I guess you might have guessed it already how it came into being :)

This time, its only about Play time, play activity. No English, no Maths and no Hindi :)

Well, can I start this without thanking once again, my dear cousin Dr Namrata Dave? She is so thoughtful to gift just the right games to my daughter Zeel! And of course VASCSC Science Shop - the company which created the play games.

Now kids, if P is for PLAY you know who else has to be there. P for . . . . . . PEPPA !

Yes, lets get started!

## eleze# 7 Plavity

# Material Used #
1) Parking puzzle
2) Tangram
3) Tower of Brahma
4) Peppa family and friends characters

Parents, a point to note here. I have used Peppa character here since I have this toy. You may use any other character available with you. Its use is optional. Why I have used a cartoon character also, you will know as you read through and watch the albums. The moment you mention that its going to be a play activity involving Peppa, your child jumps with joy and can't wait to do the activity.

# The Activity #
1) Here are the Plavity albums ! Go through in the given sequence.
a. Parking puzzle

b. Tangram

c. Tower of Brahma

# My views on using the kit #
All the three - Parking puzzle, Tangram and Tower of Brahma are colorful. So, a tick here.  The Parking puzzle and Tower of Brahma build up the logical ability in the kids.  My daughter could solve the Tower of Brahma when she persistently kept doing it ( doing it in specified number of steps, I kept out of scope for now). The Parking puzzle was difficult and I had to give her a clue. She enjoys it now. And, another thing to notice is that, there is a moral coming out of it. In situations of deadlock, one should give way to the other. It happens many times with all of us. When one has to take her car out of the society and another one is coming inside the gate. So unless one gives way, other can't go. I explained this to my daughter.

Playing Tangram reveals the creative side of the child. And it builds up on that. The wooden shapes are real thick and acrylic ones have beautiful colors.

After playing with all the three games, I asked her which one would she recommend to her friends. In a flash she replied " Tangram". I asked her why so. And she confidently answered that, Tangram was the easiest one among all of those ! Why not. Large part of the time she spent was in deriving the shapes and figures with Tangram. The more I encouraged her, the more she got excited and would tell me to wait and watch for what she would come up with next :).

All parents should definitely buy these for their kids. Working parents will see the benefit in their kids being occupied while they are busy. But if one can give time, please do sit along and do the activity with them. And you can always solve one for yourself !

  1. I checked. Really nice ones all three. Parking one always intrigues me. And tower of Brahma, is like tower of hanoi puzzle we used to solve programmatically in computer science. Good ones. Keep bringing in more such puzzle based games. Very very effective I believe, even if some help from parent is needed.

Colors of my emotions

There are colors of my emotions Do you know? Like pearls in an ocean Do you know? O, how would you? You must look into my heart The acts it performs Reflect various shades of art Come, let's see This palette of colors You and I As we learn with joy. Does it ring the bell on which activity I am talking about? Colors indeed, but not discrete. Few days back, after the last Hindi matra activity, my brain was working around to decide what to take up next. When Zeel and I sat, I shared her my concern about not sure what to do next. She threw a couple of ideas, and in one such thought, happen to mention about making heart shaped chits (looking at her dress), picking the chit and going on treasure hunt for action words. Voila ! It struck a chord within me. Heart represents emotions, colors evoke emotions and the emotions drive actions...............Are you with me? Let's begin ! --------------------------------- ## eleze# 10 The colors of my emotions # Material Used # 1) Heart shaped ...

Seven berries

One day, my daughter Zeel asked why I don’t make EVS worksheets for her. So far, to make learning practice fun for her, I had created worksheets and hands-on activities for English, Hindi and Maths subjects. That’s how my blog site www.nesteleze.blogspot.com was born.  Her question made me thinking. And it was very true. Although I have been a Science student, somehow the EVS topics don’t interest me the way other subjects do, with regards to designing an activity or worksheet. So, in crafting something “different” as per Zeel’s demand, I had to motivate myself to design something for “EVS”. And that’s how SEVEN BERRIES was born. Centered on Zeel’s likes. The names of the friend berries are ingrained in her mind and heart, from the time I had been creating and reciting on the spot stories, more than a year back.  This work is at an infancy stage. So please do pardon me for anything that is not to your child’s liking or interest. But I am sure it won’t be a case!  Check o...

Eight. Elizabeth. Eleze.

Any connection do you see? Who is Elizabeth? Well, she will come into picture. Lets first talk about the beginning word of this writing piece - EIGHT. My daughter Zeel, turned eight recently. Is it a milestone? Hmm...I am not sure. But I do vividly remember her Life Skills teacher mentioning that kids at this age, in class two, want to achieve milestones. They want to make something, create a work by themselves. And, they will come to the parent, show it proudly, expecting an acknowledgement. As parents, we must pause whatever we are doing, look at the child and respond. Do not ignore.  So while she attempts to accomplish certain works (of art I believe, which is her interest area), a thought entered and sat in my mind. Firmly. At eight now, she, my daughter, should embark on the journey of reading children’s books/novels. Since the age of three, we have exposed her to stories. Reading to her not one, two but countless tales. Over the years, she has developed an ear for stories. An...
