Hi there!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on my first Welcome post on this blog ELEZE - Educative Learning with zeal.
The year-end festival is here and all the children have vacation in their school. What's best then, to engage the child in few Fun n Learn activities at home!
Today's eleze, is not a planned one. It simply sprang into my mind as I was sitting alongside my daughter Zeel, who was doing her homework. This one is aimed at revising Maths followed by a COMBO FUN.
## eleze# 2 MATLISH
# Material Used #
1) Number cards from 1 to 100 - Either you can buy these or make at home. I chose the latter. If you are buying these online, you can opt for number coins or number flash cards.
2) English Word cards - Sound words ee, oo, ll, sh, th, ck,ch etc. I picked all these words from Zeel's English Text Book of school and made chits at home. Create once , use multiple times.
You need not create all the types of sound words in one sitting. That will be laborious. Choose some to start with.
3) Black/white board, chalk/pen/sketch pens, and paper/sticky notes
4) Handkerchief
# The Activity #
1) Spread the number cards on the table/floor.
2) Blindfold the child.
3) Ask the child to pick 6 cards.
4) Remove the blindfold and ask the child to read out the numbers and arrange them in ASCENDING ORDER.
5) Repeat steps 2 to 4 to make the child practice ASCENDING ORDER 6-7 times.
6) Once done, give DESCENDING ORDER problems in the same way.
Remember to blindfold and remove it every time the child has to pick 6 cards. They are delighted! You can use a hanky or your hand or the child can use her hands to blindfold.
Now, if you are wondering where the activity reflects the title, hold on! The key to this lock is here - MATLISH, as I call it, is a fun combo. A task that combines both Maths and English work. 10 minutes before closing the session, do this.
Ask the child to pick one number card and one sound word card while being blindfolded. After removing the blindfold, let her read the number and the word. Ask then to frame a sentence from both and write it. Only one sentence is to be written.
E. g. 12, room
Sentence - There are twelve boxes in the room.
Help the child with spelling as required.
Sometimes, the combination is such that you wonder what sentence will come up. But the kids surprise you.!
E.g. 32, wash.
Sentence - You wash hands for thirty-two minutes.
When I asked Zeel, why should you wash for so many minutes, pat came the answer - "When one has colors on the hand, it will take so much time to clean! ". I chuckled recollecting that when she colors her hand while playing, she loves to spend time with soap and water :)
The after effect of this entire huddle was the impromptu feedback by Zeel saying she liked it.!
Fun time followed as She joined her friends for outdoor play.

Good one. The idea of blind folding the kid makes it look like a game for him/her. The kid will want to quickly make a sentence, so that he/she gets a chance to be blindfolded again. And a good justification by Zeel for her sentence on "32, wash" :D

DeleteIt's an awesome idea. Child will not realise actually story is going on or he is solving the sum. Very innovative and impressive.
